Is there a rubric I can use to grade student writing responses?

We leave the grading of Freckle writing responses up to the teacher, as every class, school, and grade has different standards and expectations for writing. The 4-3-2-1 grading rubric allows teachers flexibility in deciding what a 4 looks like compared to a 3, how a 2 is different from a 1, and so on and so forth.

We also understand that some teachers want more guidance in grading student writing responses, and so we've come up with 3 basic rubrics, one for each of the three main writing strands: opinion/argument, informational/expository, and narrative. For each rubric, the 4 level represents the highest quality response, and each subsequent level represents a step down in terms of thoroughness, development, etc.

You can find each of the rubrics below and use them in your grading.

Opinion/Argument Writing Rubric

Informational/Expository Writing Rubric
